5th/6th Grade OWL
Our 5th/6th Grade OWL program is an eight workshop curriculum designed to help preteens gain the knowledge, life principles, and skills they need to understand and express their sexuality in holistic, life-enhancing ways.
This comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program introduces key topics like values, body image, gender and sexual identity, peer pressure, and healthy relationships with sensitivity and inclusiveness. The underlying values of the program reflect the justice-oriented values of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
We use the Second Edition of the curriculum which maintains the OWL values and introduces new content, activities, perspectives, language, and resources for today’s children. New topics include body image, social media/Internet, and consent, as well as an updated and deeper exploration of gender identity and roles. Many of the popular activities and discussion from the first edition are preserved, alongside newer, more interactive activities.
The class is open to children in 5th and 6th grades who are children of church members and from the community at large based on availability.
