We’ve changed our name!

The Space Team has become the Building Expansion Team. The Space Committee was formed to determine what to do about obtaining more space. Now that decision has been made, Building Expansion more accurately describes our function. Along with the new name comes a new mailbox, buildingexpansion@foothillsuu.org A new website is also in the works.

Looking Back

The month of February was largely spent on charettes. Over 150 people showed up for one of these design sessions. Some people had a lot of fun, some people were really stressed, but everyone contributed to the vision for the new building. Our architects were very excited to finally start drawing and have conducted a few charrettes of their own back in their offices. They will be showing several ideas to the Building Expansion Team, eventually narrowing it down to one plan to work on in more detail. 

We have also formed a sub group to begin looking into parking options. One of our hopes is that we can find ways to encourage carpooling, walking, biking and other more sustainable forms of transportation. We are looking at using nearby large lots, shuttles, carpooling apps, ride sharing and everything else we can think of.  Let us know if you have ideas.

Looking Ahead

March will be spent communicating with the architect and our capital campaign consultant. The parking group will continue to explore options. Watch for an announcement of the date for the reveal of the preliminary drawings. 

It will not come as a surprise that creating the building we envision will be expensive. To that end, the Board has chosen James D. Klote and Associates to help us with a capital campaign. We have started providing information to Klote to help them understand us, both financially and culturally. The campaign is planned to kick off in September.
