"Giving brings happiness at every stage of its expression. We experience
joy in forming the intention to be generous, we experience joy in the
actual act of giving something, and we experience joy in remembering the
fact that we have given."
From Moral Tales Updated Curriculum
The way we handle money says a lot about our values. Our spending
habits should reflect our religious values. People have a genuine spirit
of generosity. We are not called to survive, but to serve. We want to
make a difference.
How much should you give? Foothills Unitarian is completely self-supporting.
Please, give at the most generous level that fits your values, your finances
and your experience of Foothills. An old maxim is "Give 10% to the church,
save 10%, and live on the rest.". (Want to tithe?)
Some religious traditions set dues or rent pews. Some appeal continually
for money. At Foothills Unitarian, we ask for your annual pledge based
on the Unitarian Universalist Association
Fair Share Giving Guide. The UUA suggests either a full 10% tithe
as a way to live out your spiritual principles,
or if this is not possible, an amount between 2% and 9%.
Our recommendation this year is that each household give 5%.
Every situation is different. Some people might have had great luck with the
stock market recently, while others might have lost their jobs. We appreciate
your thoughtful consideration of your pledge. We gratefully receive all gifts
to the church as they support the important work we do together.
